Christopher Derry Photography

"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious." ~Albert Einstein

My name is Christopher Derry. I’m a creative photographer and part time working musician living with my family in Leesburg, VA.
A little about me:
In 1984 at the ripe age of 7, I was gifted my first camera. This was a blue and yellow Fisher Price kids’ camera that shot with 110 film cartridges. Along with my wooden trains and Criss Cross Crash Hot Wheels set, the camera became one of the most influential items from my childhood.
Fast forward a few years, and my first “real” camera came in the form of my stepdad’s Canon AE-1 SLR 35mm film camera. I was in the 7th grade living in Randolph, NJ, and this is when my passion for capturing the world around me through photography truly took hold. I learned how to operate a fully manual camera, develop film, and print my own enlargements in our middle school darkroom…Remember darkrooms? Ever since those early days of my photographic journey, I’ve rarely been seen without a camera close by.
For the better part of the past twenty years, I’ve worked as a full time creative professional, supporting my clients with their graphic design, web and digital content development needs, while also producing photo and video content as requested. During the early 2000’s, I worked solely as the lead photo retouch artist for a prominent and incredibly successful husband/wife photography business based in Sarasota, FL. It was during these years I honed my digital photo editing skills while processing and editing all the images for their fine art portraiture, fashion editorial and real estate photography clients.
Capturing a technically well-executed photo is only one aspect of great photographic work. The photo shoot is merely a single step (and all that most people see) in the process required to produce memorable and lasting images. It is the processing and editing that so-often makes the difference between a good photo and a great one.
All that said, I’ve recently decided to dive into my true creative passion by making photography my primary professional focus (no pun intended!). If you’d like to learn more about me, my photographic vision, and how I can capture the moments so important to you, please visit my contact page and send a message so we can schedule time to get to know one another. I look forward to hearing from you.
